Health Care Gifts That Keep Giving

As a 501(c)(3) non-profit, public benefit foundation, the Trust continues to encourage and accept tax-deductible donations to support its broad health care mission and will publish the names of donors in each issue of Health Watch.

Gifts to the Trust

Donors interested in making gifts to the Trust may do so in a variety of ways illustrated below. For advice on planning a specific planned gift, the Trust recommends you consult a tax attorney or other professional financial advisor.

Memorial and Commemorative Gifts

Pay tribute to a relative or friend with a memorial or commemorative gift which will be acknowledged in Health Watch. Gift envelopes are available from the Trust Office at (831)761-5639.

Annual Gifts

Gifts made to the Trust on an annual basis establish a habit of giving which the Trust can count on to fund ongoing needs, from administrative and operational expenses to donor directed funding of a favorite health focus area (i.e. diabetes, children, seniors, etc).

Bequests

Donors who let us know they've made provision for the Trust in their wills are invited to become members of the Guardian Circle. The Guardian Circle bequest program was established by the Pajaro Valley Community Health Trust to recognize those who wish to designate all or part of their estate in support of health care in the Pajaro Valley.  Donors need only complete a simple form, stating that they have made or intend to make provision in their will for the trust.  The Trust has sample codicil forms available to assist donors.  Guardian Circle members are recognized in Health Watch, the Trust's publication. ... read more….

Gifts to the Endowment Funds

Bequests and deferred or planned gifts have frequently been called "endowment builders." Such gifts allow you to support the Trust, often with a much higher-level gift and at a "lower cost" than you thought possible. In many cases, you can improve the status of your financial affairs for yourself, your spouse and your heirs as well.  It's important to plan for the best distribution of your estate to minimize potentially large estate taxes, while maximizing what is available to your spouse and heirs.

While anyone may make a donation of any amount at any time to the Trust Endowment Fund or the Founders' Endowment Fund (originally established by the WCH Foundation), it is also possible to create a "named" component in the endowment. This requires a gift of $5,000 in your name, the name of a loved one, or an organization, and can be added to over time.

The Trust currently maintains three components within our endowment. The "Founders' Fund" was established with a permanently restricted donation of endowment funds from the former Watsonville Community Hospital Foundation. Earnings from the Founders' Fund are used to benefit the health care needs of seniors and children in the community.

The Trust's General Endowment Fund is also a permanently restricted endowment fund.  However the earnings of the general endowment fund are unrestricted and may be used at the discretion of the board where health care need is greatest. Currently, the Trust maintains a component within the general endowment in the name of Frank and Zoe Ann Orr. Donors may add to the principal of the Orr Endowment at any time.

The third component of the endowment is the Phil Rather Endowment Fund. Again, gifts to the Rather Fund are permanently restricted. However earnings from the fund will benefit the Diabetes Health Center and other diabetes related work of the Trust.
