9th Annual Diabetes Health Fair was a success
On May 4th, at the downtown Watsonville Plaza, volunteers from the Regional Diabetes Collaborative (RDC), a program of the Pajaro Valley Community Health Trust, gathered to provide diabetes prevention education and blood glucose screenings to local residents attending the Watsonville Certified Farmer's Market. Against a backdrop of music and sunshine, local residents turned out in high numbers to enjoy the many activities provided. Students from the Watsonville High School Health Academy supervised children's games and participated by taking participants' blood pressure. A highlight of the event was the free raffle for two bicycles, helmets, Body Zone passes, Tayo Spa gift certificate, Jim Booth Swim School lessons, Tae Kwan Do lessons, YMCA Family passes, Nordic Naturals-omega 3's, backpacks and much more. Special thanks to Maribel Cuervo for acting as the official Emcee of the event, Si Se Puede for helping set up and Community Action Board - Reforming Education Advocating for Leadership (REAL) Youth for assisting with event logistics.
