Human Race 2010 —Making a Difference in Our Community!
With nearly 100 participants, our Team Diabetes Health Center (DHC) was one of the largest teams at this year’s Human Race 10K along West Cliff Drive in Santa Cruz on May 8.
Pictured at right are Diabetes Health Center Staff (standing, left to right) Martha Quintana, Kathleen King, Jaqueline Thompson, Aaron Quintana and (kneeling) Mel & Debbie Ukestad.
Our turn-out was bolstered this year by the large number of students from the Watsonville High School Health Academy who walked and ran with us (some pictured below, along with teachers and staff)).

As they’ve studied this year to prepare for future careers in health care, their curriculum has included nutrition, exercise, and learning to make healthy lifestyle choices to prevent overweight, obesity and diabetes. So naturally they couldn’t wait to practice what they’d learned and make a big showing as members of the Team Diabetes Health Center for the event. Their enthusiasm was very inspiring!
With early fund raising efforts, we were able to raise $8,859 in sponsorships. On behalf of our staff, please accept warmest thanks for getting behind our team again this year. Your gift is helping us to sustain diabetes prevention and self-management education services for those in our community who need it most!
